Dallas Art Fair 2016

Chris Fraser and Yamini Nayar

April 14 - 17, 2016 | Fashion Industry Gallery, 1807 Ross Avenue, Dallas, TX

At the Dallas Art Fair 2016, Gallery Wendi Norris will exhibit a two-artist booth featuring work by Oakland-based Chris Fraser, who will be showing two light-emitting sculptures and Yamini Nayar, who resides in Brooklyn and will exhibit a series of new photographs.  Architecture figures prominently into each artist’s practice, though each artist approaches it quite differently.  While Fraser’s medium is three dimensional and Nayar’s approach is via two dimensions, for both artists, the viewer’s bodily relationship to the work is crucial for its understanding.  Fraser’s sculptures are light-activated and invite shifts in sensory and spatial perception as the viewer nears the works.  Nayar builds psychologically-loaded, imagined interiors that mimic sculptures, which she photographs before destroying the models.  The resulting works are images with disorienting perspectives that recall modernist architecture.  Each artist invites us into a space of his or her own construction, whether it is literal in the case of Fraser, or imagined, as in the case of Nayar.
