Gallery Wendi Norris is pleased to present “Unearthly Delights,” a solo presentation of new mixed media paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Chitra Ganesh at the 2019 edition of Frieze London in the invitational section, Woven, curated by Cosmin Costinas, Executive Director and Curator of Para Site, Hong Kong.
Ganesh creates work that pushes the boundaries of gender and power, occupying the liminal space between myth and reality, history and futurity. “Unearthly Delights” is an immersive installation of mixed media paintings evoking a cosmic night garden as a post-apocalyptic site of regeneration. The large-scale works on paper on linen depict a variety of creatures – animal, human, and superheroine – reimagining collective power as a uniting force across species. Their environs are at once dystopian and lush, considering the amazing capacity of the natural environment to flourish in the wake of human destruction and violence.
