EXPO Chicago 2017: Firelei Báez, Julio César Morales, and Ranu Mukherjee

Navy Pier, Chicago, IL, September 13 - 17, 2017
Booth 237

For EXPO Chicago 2017, Gallery Wendi Norris will present new works by three internationally renowned artists— Firelei Báez, Julio César Morales, and Ranu Mukherjee—who explore historical, political and/or mythological narratives through a variety of media.

Báez will debut a Woven Vessels series, continuing her visual lexicon of powerful, female forms often stemming from Afro-Caribbean histories and folklore. Morales presents a new photographic-based series expanding on the treacherous tales along the Mexican/American border. Cuatro Caminos highlights the migratory patterns along the deadly Devils Highway (formally named Route 666), a prehistoric and colonial trail through the Sonora Desert in Arizona. Mukherjee will exhibit for the first time in Chicago, with large color-rich paintings from her Shadowtime series that reflect on the confluence of timescales in contemporary life across environmental, political and media-centric moments.
