Rohini Devasher at the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale

Jax District, Diriyah, Saudi Arabia

On view January 30 - May 2, 2026

Led by Artistic Directors Nora Razian and Sabih Ahmed, In Interludes and Transitions at the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026 considers the world as a multitude of processions. The Biennale’s title draws from a colloquial phrase invoking the cycles of encampments and journeys among nomadic communities in the Arabian Peninsula—evoking connection and continuity within a state of constant flux. The Biennale proposes to rethink the world in intense motion, through processions that entangle humans with planetary, multi-species, spiritual, and technological currents.

Rohini Devasher’s newest work, From the Dust of this Planet (2026), unfolds across four acts, drawn from science fiction, ancient non-western cosmological texts, post humanist philosophy, theoretical physics and lived astronomical observation to destabilize the presumed neutrality of the observer. Musical themes in the work evolve to reveal the dialogue between the object and observer as deeply entangled. Evoking wonder and horror by turns, the planet emerges not as a mute, inert object but as a generative, relational, and even sentient body.

From the Dust of this Planet proposes that every act of observation constructs its own world and the observer is always already part of what they seek to understand, while perhaps the planet is also looking back.
