The artwork of Leonora Carrington (1917-2011) is full of arcane symbolism, mystical allusions, and feminist reimaginings of history and myth. More than a decade after her death, Carrington’s work continues to provide a creative wellspring for contemporary artists and inspire scholars to delve into the many facets and afterlives of her complex, beguiling artwork.
In celebration of the release of two outstanding publications on Carrington, 'The Tarot of Leonora Carrington" (2022, 2nd edition) by Susan Aberth and Tere Arcq and "The Medium of Leonora Carrington: A feminist haunting in the contemporary arts" (2022) by Catriona McAra, Gallery Wendi Norris hosted a virtual discussion between authors Aberth and McAra, moderated by Laeticia Barbier.
The April 6 event fell on what would have been Carrington’s 106th birthday and, quite serendipitously, on the Pink Moon, the first full moon of spring. Please join us in celebrating the life of Leonora Carrington and the scholars who continue to explore her work and cultivate her legacy.
