Dorothea Tanning: "Transformations"

A conversation with Victoria Carruthers and Laura Raicovich
November 1, 2021

A curatorial conversation Victoria Carruthers and Laura Raicovich, in celebration of Gallery Wendi Norris' forthcoming presentation of Dorothea Tanning at the ADAA Art Show 2021.

Victoria Carruthers is Senior Lecturer in modern and contemporary art history and theory at the Australian Catholic University, Sydney, Australia. Her research explores the intersection between art, literature and music across visual cultures in the twentieth century. She published the first critical monograph on American artist Dorothea Tanning, entitled Transformations, in 2020. Victoria was fortunate enough to visit the artist on a number of occasions and enjoy many conversations on her life and work. Her book, Transformations, offers an unmatched exploration of Tanning's life and work and formed the curatorial basis for the gallery's upcoming solo presentation.

Laura Raicovich is a New York-based writer and curator whose new book, Culture Strike: Art and Museums in an Age of Protest, was published in June 2021 by Verso Books.
