On Saturday, May 11, 2024, Gallery Wendi Norris hosted a conversation between Samantha Friedman, Curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Museum of Modern Art, and Guillaume Kientz, Director of the Hispanic Society Museum and Library. The conversation was in celebration of the opening of the first exhibition dedicated to Remedios Varo's drawings, "A Visionary Line: Remedios Varo Drawings," and was moderated by Wendi Norris.
Remedios Varo (Spain/Mexico, 1908 - 1963) is best known for her virtuosic, otherworldly paintings that unite meticulous technique with surreal subject matter. Rarely exhibited and little known, Varo’s drawings served as blueprints and psychological studies for her paintings. This conversation between esteemed art historians centers on Varo’s technique and modes of drawing, her range of influences, and her legacy.
